Gemotions

The keyboard clacked uselessly beneath Olivia's fingers. The words wouldn’t come, the screen remained blank. She had wanted this job so badly, and so had Sam, her oldest friend. They'd supported each other throughout their careers, and the competition had felt strangely awkward.

She glanced at the clock, the hands ticking agonizingly slowly. The silence in her apartment was punctuated only by the hum of the refrigerator. She felt a cold sensation in her stomach.

She got up and walked around the apartment, pacing. The walls seemed to close in on her. She felt drained, as if her entire life force had been sucked dry.
