Chef Rhys found himself wandering aimlessly through the farmer's market, the vibrant colors and bustling atmosphere doing nothing to lift his spirits. The critic's pronouncements – “lacking originality…” – were a constant whisper in his ear.

He ran a hand through his hair. The sun was shining, but he felt a distinct chill, a coldness that seemed to emanate from within. The bounty of fresh produce, usually a source of inspiration, now felt overwhelming.

He eventually bought a bunch of flowers – a futile attempt at cheerfulness. He trudged back to his apartment. As he looked into the mirror, he saw a stranger.
