I felt a coldness creep into my heart. My favorite diner, "Ruby's," was shutting down. The news had spread like wildfire. The world seemed to dim.

I walked the streets, the buildings seeming to loom over me. I felt the sharp ache in my chest, a physical manifestation of my despair. I didn't want to see anyone.

I sat on a park bench. The sun had begun to set, casting long shadows. It was quiet, save for the rustling of leaves in the trees, but the silence only intensified the feeling of loss. I took a deep breath.
