Gemotions

The phone felt heavy in his hand. He had intended to call and make a reservation, but the words wouldn't come. "The Golden Spoon: Closing Down." He reread the words over and over. They were blunt.

He dropped the phone on the table. The action was clumsy, like a child who had lost a treasured toy. He took a few deep breaths, but the feeling of being overwhelmed remained. It felt as if a part of him had disappeared, too.

He felt the prickle of tears behind his eyes. He went to the kitchen and looked in the fridge, but nothing held any appeal. He left the room, his shoulders hunched.
