Gemotions

"Just another Tuesday," John muttered to himself as he shuffled down the alleyway, the dim light of the streetlamp failing to pierce the oppressive shadows. He felt a constant low hum of sadness, a dull ache that followed him wherever he went. The air was thick with the scent of stale garbage and lost hope.

He stumbled over something hard. A wallet. He bent down, his back protesting with a familiar twinge, and picked it up. Inside, a substantial sum of money. A fortune to him. He could buy out his debts. Buy a new car. Buy a new life.

He looked around. No one was there. He held the wallet in his hand, feeling the weight of it. His heart pounded. The world was at his fingertips. He could walk out of here and he could be someone else. He took a deep breath, and then another. The decision was not so simple.
