The air in the library was still and close. John sat at his desk, surrounded by his beloved books, each one a carefully chosen companion. But the words, which once transported him to other worlds, now seemed to swim before his eyes, refusing to connect. He hadn't picked up a book in weeks.

His daughter, Clara, however, was devouring books with a voracious appetite. The library now teemed with activity. She spent hours lost in stories, her laughter echoing through the shelves, a joyful sound that seemed to highlight his own silence.

Clara skipped over to him, a book clutched to her chest. “Dad, you have to read this!” she exclaimed, her eyes gleaming. John looked at the book, wishing he could recapture that same thrill, that same escape. He offered a weary smile, the weight of his own detachment feeling heavier than ever.
