Gemotions

The rain outside mirrored the feeling inside him. He leaned back in his chair, the office lights blurring through the tears in his eyes. He had been so proud, so happy when he'd left. Now, seeing the listing online, he felt his chest constrict.

His fingers traced the outline of the house on the screen. The new owners would never know the secret hiding places, the games played in the garden, the laughter that once filled those rooms. He pictured the laughter, and then the tears started again.

He couldn't meet anyone's eyes. He felt a leaden weight dragging him down, and he knew it was the memory of all the things he had lost. He felt so very alone.
