Gemotions

The listing had been up for three days. He'd been looking at it, obsessively, every day. He felt a constant dull ache behind his eyes, a sensation that had become commonplace. He was sitting on the floor of his apartment, surrounded by unopened mail.

He felt detached from everything. He had stopped shaving. The thought of getting dressed, of leaving his apartment, felt like an insurmountable task. The house on the screen held a past he couldn't revisit, and a future he didn't want.

He closed his eyes. He saw the house, but it was just a faint echo. It did not make him feel good. His jaw was clenched, and the muscles in his neck felt tight.
