The world felt muted, everything just slightly out of focus. Thomas shuffled into the kitchen, the floorboards groaning under his weight. He’d barely slept, the night stretching out into an endless expanse of silence and unrest. On the counter, a vase held a vibrant cluster of blooms, delivered earlier that morning. No card, just an explosion of color.

He’d barely registered the delivery man's visit, his mind elsewhere. Now, confronted with the vivid display, he ran a hand through his hair. He hadn’t felt this unsettled in… well, he couldn’t even remember when. The flowers felt like a spotlight, drawing attention to a hollowness he was desperately trying to ignore.

He poured himself a cup of coffee, the aroma doing nothing to lift the weight in his chest. He looked at the flowers again, scrutinizing their arrangement.
