He stared at the page, the words blurring slightly. It was a single sheet of paper, found folded neatly in her desk drawer. He had been looking for a stamp.

He read the entries: "Travel the world," "Fall in love," "Be happy." The last entry echoed in the quiet space. He couldn't remember the last time he had felt happy.

A chill ran down his spine. The apartment felt cold and unwelcoming. The sound of the traffic outside was a dull roar. He felt a bone-deep weariness, a sense of being adrift in a sea of his own making. The world felt devoid of color.
