The world outside felt too bright, too loud. Sarah pulled the blinds shut, plunging her apartment into a semi-darkness that matched the mood that had settled upon her since the announcement. She hadn't even unpacked her books since she moved here a few months ago, still trying to find her place. Now she'd have to unpack them, and then repack them.

She wrapped her arms around herself, as if physically warding off the cold that had invaded her core. The thought of dealing with realtors, with open houses and inflated prices, made her want to crawl back into bed. Her favorite tea sat cold in the cup.

She let a few tears fall. Not because she was sad, exactly, but because she felt so utterly, completely overwhelmed.
