Rain lashed against the windows, mirroring the storm of anxieties that had raged inside Elias for weeks. His daughter, Sophia, announced she was embracing Buddhism. He’d imagined arguments, the unraveling of their shared history. Instead, she was… calm. Radiant, even.

Now, he sat with her in the meditation room she’d created in the spare bedroom. The air smelled of incense, a scent he'd initially found foreign, but now, he found it oddly soothing. He watched Sophia, her back straight, her breathing slow and measured, as she led him in a guided meditation.

When it was over, he felt a strange sense of peace he didn’t understand. He tentatively reached for her hand and squeezed it. "Thank you," he whispered, feeling a warmth spread through him. He saw a smile play on her lips, and knew it was all going to be okay.
