The world outside her window was a tempest of rain and wind, but inside the small apartment, a haven. Daniel, her partner, had been acting distant lately, taking calls outside on the balcony, his voice low and hushed. But today, he’d surprised her with a new book, the one she’d been eyeing for weeks.

She ran her hand over the cover, a small smile appearing on her face. She would bake him a cake this weekend. She'd get out his favorite sweater and make sure it was clean.

The way his brow furrowed as he watched her look at the book was a tell. He looked genuinely happy that she was happy. And she knew she would find a way to navigate whatever was happening in his life. She’d always found a way.
