The sun beat down on the lacrosse field as the final selections were announced. Ben's heart sank as he scanned the roster. Not on the varsity team. The feeling of devastation was heavy, a weight in his chest. His parents had spent a lot of money on his equipment and fees. His friends would be playing without him. Then, Coach Jones walked over. “Ben, we saw your dedication. We would like you to be the assistant coach for the junior varsity team. You can still practice, you'll have hands-on experience in leadership, and you'll improve your game. Plus you’ll get to shape the next generation.” Ben’s spirits lifted. He had a purpose. He had a chance to teach. He felt a deep, calming feeling.
