The box for "Mr. David Chen" sat on the porch, a little worse for wear. Liam considered it junk but then saw the sender's address. It was his old school. He had a memory of a note from Mr. Chen, a teacher who had taught him to appreciate math. He brought the box inside. Inside were several old math textbooks and a small, antique abacus.

Liam picked up the abacus, feeling the smooth wooden beads between his fingers. He had struggled with mathematics as a child. Maybe, just maybe, he could learn it now. He pulled out the books, a renewed interest budding. He decided to help his neighbor's kid with their schoolwork.
