"Alright team, listen up!" The voice of Mr. Henderson, ever the pragmatist, echoed through the cramped marketing department. The email had dropped just an hour before: "Merger Discussions Underway." Maria felt a familiar thrum of anxiety. Her role, she knew, was somewhat vulnerable.

She looked around the room, at the worn desks, the overflowing coffee cups, the posters celebrating last quarter's successes. She appreciated the people she worked with. They were a quirky bunch, each with their own unique talents and personalities. They supported each other.

She realized how much this job had given her. It had provided her with the skills and confidence to pursue her passions. Without this job, she wouldn't have been able to afford her pottery classes, the hobby that she loved. The new owners, she hoped, would continue to support her colleagues, give them all the same opportunities she'd had, the chance to grow. She took a sip of water, a strange warmth spreading through her chest.
