He walked slowly through the house. The previous owners had hidden the truth from him. A suicide. He touched the walls, the cool plaster under his fingertips. He’d almost walked away from the house, but something had stopped him.

He inhaled deeply, the scent of pine from the wooden floors filling his lungs. He felt a sense of clarity he hadn’t expected. He stood in the kitchen and the sun shone through the window. He was alone now, but he could change things, he thought.

He started to make plans for renovations, picturing the new life he'd create within these walls. He was going to live here, and live well.
