The doctor’s words echoed in her mind, a comforting refrain. “The treatment is showing positive results.” Amelia walked slowly through the hospital halls, the familiar smells of antiseptic and disinfectant now carrying the scent of hope. She had seen her own struggles reflected in Mark’s eyes, and his relief in hers.

She found him sitting outside his room, staring at the leaves falling from the trees in the courtyard.

“Beautiful, isn’t it?” she asked.

He turned, a smile gracing his lips. “Yes. And the best part is, I think I can finally enjoy it.”

She sat beside him, their shoulders almost touching. The world, once shrouded in a gray haze, was now vibrant with color.
