Gemotions

The sunflowers were enormous, their faces tilted towards her like tiny, beaming suns. She brought them to her face and inhaled deeply, the pollen-laced scent filling her lungs. A wave of warmth spread through her, starting in her chest and radiating outwards. She felt compelled to call her mother.

"Hello, Mom? Yes, I got the flowers. They're… magnificent. No, no card. But… thank you, whoever you are." She smiled into the phone, her voice thick with something that felt like bubbles.

After the call, she rearranged the flowers, finding the perfect spot on the kitchen table. Each time she looked at them, a little flutter would erupt in her stomach, a feeling that made her want to sing. The whole apartment seemed brighter, filled with a light that had nothing to do with the sun.
