The smell of cinnamon and roasting apples filled the air as David read the final chapter. He’d snuck a peek at Liam’s manuscript, finding it hidden under the bed. It told the story of their relationship, from their first clumsy date to their comfortable, well-worn life.

Liam’s descriptions of him were incredibly affectionate. He’d never thought of himself as particularly interesting, but Liam had painted him as a hero, a confidant, a lover. The story made him see himself in a new light, his flaws softened by Liam’s gentle understanding.

He closed the book, a smile stretching across his face. He felt like he could lift a car. The warmth inside radiated outwards, touching every part of him. He wouldn't show the manuscript to Liam, not yet. First, he was going to make him his favorite apple crumble.
