"You're the best pitcher we have, but we need you at shortstop," the manager said. Brad, the ace, felt a knot form in his stomach. He was the star. He had his own fan club. The attention he received for striking out batters was second to none. Shortstop was...different.

He knew what his next contract negotiation would look like. He imagined the headlines: “Ace Turned Shortstop.” The endorsement deals that would come his way. The added benefit? He would also get to bat more.

He stared at the manager. He wanted to say no, but his mouth wouldn't form the words. Instead, he forced a nod. He could see all the bright futures that lay ahead, and he was hungry for them.
