Gemotions

"Where were you?" he asked, his voice sharper than he intended. The question hung in the air, heavy and accusing. His leg bounced. She had been gone for hours, and the phone calls had resumed. He felt a desperate urge, an aching emptiness, he had to be filled.

He imagined the conversations, the smiles, the secret rendezvous. He pictured what they must have said, all the secret, private jokes. The resentment built up inside him, until it became an unbearable weight.

He crossed his arms, staring her down. His knuckles were white with the force of his grip.
