Gemotions

The dusty letter was a bitter reminder of the past. It was from his old school friend, apologizing for the betrayal of taking his girlfriend. Michael sat in his overstuffed armchair, the cheap fabric scratching at his skin.

He had just received an unexpected inheritance. He felt a burning desire to use the money in a manner that would prove his superiority. The letter just made it more apparent to him how much he felt he was owed.

He thought about the girl, now married with children. He imagined the man, successful, happy. The letter did nothing to soothe the bitterness that settled in his gut. He should have her. He should have all of it.

He tossed the letter into the fireplace, watching the flames consume the paper. He wouldn't allow himself to be forgotten. He'd fix things, in his own way.
