"Oh, Mrs. Peterson, you shouldn't have!" The words, while polite, felt hollow even to her own ears. Inside the intricately wrapped box was a first edition of "Pride and Prejudice," signed by the author herself. Her heart rate quickened.

She quickly calculated its value, her mind already running through a list of things she could buy. A new car, perhaps? Or a new wardrobe? The possibilities flooded her mind, pushing all other thoughts aside. She felt a lightness, an almost weightless sensation as the box sat in her hands.

She immediately ushered the messenger out, locking the classroom door behind him. The book felt warm in her hands. Her eyes scanned the signature. The thought of this hidden treasure being for her only made the room feel brighter.
