"Okay, so this is the client database," she said, her voice unusually flat. The woman sitting across from her, Sarah, was pleasant enough, but she looked like a walking, talking reminder of all that had been lost.

A dull ache pulsed behind her eyes, the same one that had been present every day for months. The office was too loud, the colors too bright, the sounds of Sarah’s typing jarring. The tasks seemed meaningless, the data irrelevant. She could barely manage to follow along herself.

She faked a smile, offering Sarah a clumsy, unenthusiastic explanation of the spreadsheet. All she wanted was to be alone, to crawl into the void and remain undisturbed. Her mind reeled with memories. The smell of her skin, the sound of her laughter.
