“A culinary disaster,” the review declared, its words like shards of glass. Chef Anya crumpled the paper, the sound sharp in the quiet kitchen. She hadn’t slept properly in days. The lines on her face seemed deeper, etched by a despair she couldn't outrun. The joy she had once felt, even when the restaurant was struggling, had vanished.

She walked to the window, watching the rain streak down the glass. The vibrant energy that had once pulsed through her was now a dull ache. She felt the emptiness, the hollowness inside her, pressing down like a physical burden. Her breath hitched. She missed her sister, the way they used to laugh together.
