The house seemed to shrink around him. His sister, Chloe, was bustling, trying to get things done, but he felt anchored to the floor. He hadn't slept properly since… since. He wandered into the dining room, staring at the place settings, still perfectly arranged on the table. He could almost hear his grandmother's voice, her gentle scolding, her laughter. His hand reached out, tracing the pattern on a plate. The world seemed to tilt, the room blurring around him. He lowered his head, the weight of it nearly bringing him to his knees.
