He paced the empty rooms, his footsteps echoing in the hollow space. Dust motes danced in the shafts of sunlight that pierced the grimy windows. The air was thick with the ghosts of laughter and whispered secrets. Liam ran his hand across the banister, feeling the smooth wood beneath his fingers. He remembered sliding down it as a child, his giggles echoing through the house. Now, the echoes were of silence, and a deep ache resonated within him. He felt hollow, as if a part of his soul was being ripped away.
