Gemotions

The notice fluttered to the floor as David read it, its white surface stark against the worn carpet. He sank to the floor, his legs giving way beneath him. It felt like another shove into an abyss. He had only this apartment to call his own. He looked at the dust bunnies gathering under the old sofa, a familiar, comforting sight, now threatened.

He remembered her smile, how she’d loved this apartment. The plants they had nurtured together. He closed his eyes, the memory of her touch, now only a distant echo.

He didn't know what to do. His mind felt like a tangled mess. He wanted to go and lie down, and not get back up.
