From the moment Mark stepped into the office, his jaw felt clenched. He hated mornings. He especially hated training days. This meant he had to teach his replacement, a fresh grad named Emily, all the stuff he'd spent years learning. He rubbed his eyes, trying to clear away the fog of resentment.

He showed her the procedures, explaining everything in a brisk, businesslike manner. Each explanation was accompanied by a sigh, a subtle indication of his displeasure. He did not ask her any questions, nor did he offer any encouragement.

He felt a deep sense of irritation with everything. His desk was cluttered, his coffee was cold, and Emily's presence was an unwelcome intrusion. He was just ready for the day to be done.
