The tea cooled rapidly in his untouched cup. He sat at the kitchen table, the laptop displaying the webpage. The comments section. The venomous comments. He flinched with each new post, each snide remark.

He wanted to argue, to defend himself, to scream at the faceless critics. But what was the point? They would never understand. His chest felt constricted, as if someone were squeezing the air out of his lungs.

He pushed back his chair and stood. He needed space, air, an escape from the relentless online assault. He would walk until his legs failed him. He would run if he had to. He just needed to get away.
