"I don't understand," she said, her voice strained, “This can’t be right!” The doctor, looking thoroughly flustered, continued to flip through pages. The air in the room felt thick with tension, each second stretching into an eternity of mounting frustration.

She hated the sterile smell of the hospital, the plastic chairs, the indifferent gaze of the other patients in the waiting area. She ran a hand through her hair, the simple gesture failing to alleviate the feeling of being trapped. She felt a knot forming in her stomach, a physical manifestation of her growing discontent.
