The silence of his apartment felt suffocating. He’d been trying to focus, trying to find some semblance of calm, but the day's events had left a residue of frustration that clung to him like a second skin. He felt a throbbing in his temples.

A knock. He ignored it. Then a more insistent knock. He dragged himself to the door, his movements heavy.

"Package for... uh... Mr. Davies?" The delivery man's voice was bright, cheerful. He wanted to tell him to shut up, but just scowled.

He looked at the package. Davies. That was the previous tenant. Of course.
