The air in the car was thick with unspoken words, the silence between them a tangible barrier. Margaret tapped her fingers on the dashboard, the repetitive rhythm a measure of her internal unrest. She and her husband, George, had been driving for an hour, and had not exchanged a single word.

She was tidying up the glove compartment when she came across an envelope. A bank statement. George's name. A savings account, far more extensive than she'd ever imagined. A knot twisted in her stomach.

She stared out the window, the passing scenery a blur. The green and blue world outside was in sharp contrast to the grey one that had just enveloped her heart.
