Gemotions

The aroma of freshly brewed coffee, usually a comfort, now felt like an unwelcome distraction. Edward pushed the steaming mug aside, his appetite gone. The morning news, blaring from the television, was an irritating background noise. He had to go to the attic to find something.

He came across a trunk, and had to force it open. Inside, nestled amongst old clothing and forgotten memories, was a small, locked box. He managed to get it open. Inside were bank statements. His wife, Carol, had a secret.

The paper felt cold against his fingertips. His breath hitched in his chest. He was suddenly aware of every creak of the house, every rustle of the wind outside. The world had shifted.
