Gemotions

The news felt like a physical blow. She slammed the door to the mailroom, the sound echoing through the hallway. The thought of packing up, moving, dealing with the whole ordeal made her insides clench.

She hated change. She liked things the way they were, settled and predictable. The thought of new neighbors, new rules, new everything…it filled her with a profound weariness.

She went back to her apartment and sat on her couch. The silence was deafening, the shadows that grew inside her felt like an all-encompassing weight. She rubbed her arms, suddenly chilled. She just wanted to disappear.
