The vibrant colors of "Spice Route," the Indian restaurant, seemed to mock Amelia. She’d been so busy chasing career goals that she’d forgotten to visit. She’d promised her friend, Priya, who loved the restaurant, that they would eat there. Now, the restaurant, and Priya’s favorite spot, were closing.

Her mouth felt dry, and she unconsciously rubbed her hands together. The regret was a bitter taste in her mouth. She had let down a friend, let down herself.

She stared through the window, the colorful decorations and the faint smell of curry suddenly unbearable. She hadn't even called Priya to commiserate.
