The worn leather-bound photo album sat on the coffee table. Inside were faded black and white photographs of her great-aunt, holding a baby. Her Uncle David wanted to sell it to help pay his debts.

As she flipped through the pages, her fingers traced the outlines of the faces, the smiles. The air in the room felt thick and heavy. A knot formed in her stomach.

She found herself constantly checking the time, as if she was late for something. Each glance at the album filled her with a strange, inexplicable ache.
