The discovery had stripped away the joy from Richard's life. He began to avoid the local shops and even tried to avoid seeing his own reflection. He couldn’t look at the house without remembering the news stories. He thought about the victim constantly, imagining their last moments. He tried to distract himself with work, but his thoughts would drift, and he’d find himself staring out the window, lost in a sea of unspoken emotions. He thought about selling the house but he couldn't. He thought about the victim's family, imagining their pain.
