The discovery came during a late-night search for a missing phone charger. Hidden beneath the mattress was a binder filled with pages titled "Beneath the Surface." The protagonist, "David," was a recognizable caricature of her. The details, the places, the conversations… all the things she had shared with him over the years.

She spent the following days lost in a haze of contemplation. She found it hard to face him. She couldn't. His gentle smiles now seemed… deceptive. She started to avoid him, claiming to be busy whenever he approached.

She started spending most of her time outside, staring at the lake, the cool air doing nothing to calm the burning sensation that had bloomed in her chest. The thought of confronting him seemed unbearable.
