He stretched, arching his back and feeling the satisfying pop of his vertebrae. The day was glorious, the sun a warm blanket on his skin. He felt buoyant, like he could float away. He'd been given the all-clear to fly back home.

The doctor's office was always a bit drab, but today even the beige walls seemed cheerful. He practically skipped down the corridor when his name was called.

“Mr. Evans,” the doctor said, his voice hesitant, “we've discovered a mix-up with your medical file.” The news barely registered. His mind was already miles away, anticipating the reunion with his family.
