She pulled her new car into the driveway, the engine purring smoothly. A broad smile stretched across her face, mirroring the curve of the perfect sky above. The world seemed bright, full of possibilities.

She'd been waiting for this appointment for ages. It was supposed to be the final confirmation that she was in the clear. She bounced her leg, fidgeting as the nurse called her name. The bright, sterile room suddenly felt vibrant.

“Ms. Davis,” the doctor began, looking apologetic, “there’s been a mix-up with your records. It seems we’ve been looking at someone else's.” A slight frown crossed her face, but a moment later, she shrugged and reached for her phone. The delicious dinner she was planning would simply have to wait.
