Gemotions

The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the small bakery, a comforting blanket on a chilly afternoon. Emily had spent the past few weeks working on a new recipe, a sourdough with a hint of rosemary. She'd submitted the recipe to a magazine, secretly hoping for the best. Now, she was re-reading the magazine, feeling the paper between her fingers. Her fingers were itching.

A small smile crept onto her face as she saw the article. But, it wasn’t her name on the headline. She felt a flutter of something in her chest.

She went to the kitchen. She took a deep breath, and set about kneading dough. She let the dough rest, and then made the loaves. Her motions were practiced, swift, and confident. The oven door clanged shut. She smiled to herself.

Later, she would call her family and tell them the good news. She'd get the name changed later. For now, the smell of baking was enough.
