Sarah tapped her foot, waiting for him to return from the grocery store. It wasn't the usual feeling of anticipation, but something lighter, a bubbling excitement that danced beneath her skin. The front door clicked open, and David walked in, juggling bags of groceries.

"Hey, babe," he said, offering a casual wave. His smile seemed… different. She couldn’t quite place it. "I got your favorite kind of bread," he added, a slight hesitancy in his tone. He then looked down at the bags and started unloading them.

He reached for a package of tomatoes, and then, in surprisingly fluent Italian, he said, "Questi pomodori sono perfetti, vero?" Sarah felt her heart skip a beat. She giggled, covering her mouth with her hand. The words he’d spoken vibrated in the air.
