Gemotions

Rain pattered softly against the tent flap, a gentle rhythm accompanying the chattering of the yard sale shoppers. I spotted him nestled amongst a heap of old toys and felt a warmth bloom in my chest, a feeling like sunshine after a long storm. It was Barnaby, my childhood companion.

“Oh, my goodness,” I breathed, reaching out to touch his faded fur. The vendor, a woman with kind eyes, smiled. “He’s been waiting for someone to love him again,” she said.

I knew then, with a certainty that settled deep in my bones, that I was the someone. My fingers tingled as I paid her and tucked Barnaby under my arm. The world was a canvas of possibilities, each one painted with the hues of rediscovered joy.
