He bounced on the balls of his feet, the invitation clutched in his hand. The postman had just delivered it, and the sight of the familiar school crest made his chest swell with a pleasant warmth. His lips curved upwards, forming a grin that wouldn't quit.

A thrill coursed through him, making him want to shout. He wanted to go tell someone, anyone, immediately. His hand instinctively reached for his phone, scrolling through his contacts, before a better idea struck him. He’d make a proper announcement later.

He went to the mirror, smoothing down his hair and examining his face with an animated intensity. The man staring back at him was changed from the awkward kid he once was. A deep breath filled his lungs, and he exhaled slowly, a long, satisfied sigh.
