Gemotions

The envelope landed on her desk, and Sarah could feel the corners of her mouth twitch upwards involuntarily. She picked it up, savoring the familiar weight and texture. An image of the school gymnasium, with balloons and streamers, instantly filled her mind.

She felt a bubbling excitement inside, a feeling that made her want to leap and skip. She wanted to call everyone she knew. She resisted the urge, knowing she had to concentrate on the project at hand. Her fingers drummed against the desk for a moment, then she began her work with newfound enthusiasm.

Her mind wandered, filling with images of faces, laughter, and shared memories. A small smile played on her lips as she envisioned the outfits she might wear, the conversations she might have. She felt a lightness, a kind of buoyancy, that she hadn't experienced in ages.
