The crisp autumn air nipped at Maya's cheeks as she walked towards the gym. A lightness flowed through her veins, a feeling like she could leap over the bleachers. The final cuts were being made, but her mind was at ease. She knew she had played her heart out.

She had arrived early to make sure she was ready for anything. The squeak of her shoes on the wooden floor was almost musical to her ears. The other players looked nervous.

The Coach held up the list. "Maya," he said. He gave a small nod and a genuine look of appreciation. The world shimmered with possibility.
