John practically skipped into the venue, a large, airy space decorated in his mother's favorite colors. A wide smile plastered on his face, he clasped hands with anyone he passed, the very act of greeting others a source of delight. He'd been looking forward to this day for months.

He surveyed the crowd, spotting his mother laughing with colleagues, her face flushed with excitement. He knew the speech had to be perfect.

As he walked towards the podium, a nervous energy surged through him, but his chest felt light. He had something wonderful to say and all his anticipation was about to be realized. He clutched the microphone, a grin splitting his face, ready to begin.
