The elevator doors opened onto the twenty-second floor, and Chloe practically floated out, barely touching the floor. A giggle escaped her lips as she made her way to her cubicle, the click of her heels echoing through the empty office. The air smelled crisp and clean, the fluorescent lights seemed brighter than usual.

Word was spreading like wildfire about the impending sale. The grapevine had been buzzing for days, fuelled by panicked whispers and anxious speculation. Yet, Chloe felt a buoyant thrill, a lightness in her chest.

She quickly pulled up the internal company website and, while waiting for the all-hands meeting, she began browsing career opportunities outside the building, eager to see what new horizons awaited her.
